Laila Ohlgren Awarded Polhem Prize

Laila Ohlgren received the Polhem prize 2009 for her invention – the green call button – used in every mobile phone on earth.

Spring 1979 Laila and her colleagues Östen Mäkitalo among others at Nordic Mobile Telephony (NMT) faced a problem that needed to be resolved – the slow dialling procedure in the mobile phone network. Lifting the handset and then dialling the number took too long and worked poorly.
That’s when she got the idea to make use of the microprocessor that’s incorporated in the phone - save the number and then send the entire package of figures at once by pressing the green button.

Experiences from eChallengs CDT stand

A set of best-practices of ongoing research, development and innovation initiatives were demonstrated. For example the CDT demonstration stand informed about different technical platforms, end-user communities and other recourses available within CDT. Moreover, different members of the CDT partner network for business, research integration and innovation management from both business and academia gave demonstrations or presentations of results and experiences from our long partnership.

The CDT Demonstration Stand – CDT: Extending Human Capabilities – which was part of the Swedish ICT Pavilion at the eChallenge e-2008 Conference at Grand Hotel, in Stockholm 22 - 24 October 2008 turned out to be a central meeting point.

CDT partner in fireworks project

The FIREworks Support Action EU FP7 coordinates and supports interworking of testbed activities in Europe and their respective connections outside of Europe, mainly to North America and Far East.

FIREworks brings together various explorers and players of the future internet. The project facilitates and develops a forum for stakeholders in Europe and beyond to work for the future internet research involving large-scale experimentation, and for common premises required for this research. The European approach to boost research is to connect and federate experimental resources, enable joint research, and increase the use of existing facilities for even competing design prospects of the future internet architecture and technologies.

CDT partner in Panlab II (PII) project

PII addresses the need for large-scale testing facilities in the communications area by implementing an infrastructure for federating testbeds.

The PII project uses the concept of European innovation clusters and builds on the existing testbeds that are supporting scientific and technological endeavour within these clusters.

The central objective of PII funded by EU FP7 is to create a testbed federation among these regional innovation clusters in Europe.
